The two top parallelepipeds are vertically constrained to follow prescribed displacement \(-A(t)\). They are also free to rotate. The embedded interface between the four smaller parallelepipeds and the large beam is unilateral frictionless contact. When A(t) is negative, the top two smaller parallelepipeds loose contact with the beam, and the structure is at rest
